What is my skin type?

To determine your skin type, blotting a clean tissue on your face in the morning is an easy way to find out your skin type.
There are five common skin types: normal, oily, dry, combination and sensitive. Blotting a clean tissue on your face in the morning is an easy way to find out your skin type.
 1.  Sensitive skin: can mean different things to different people. Sensitive skin can become inflamed and irritated easily. It is important to choose the right skin care for sensitive skin because many cleansers and moisturizers contain ingredients that can cause an adverse reaction.
2 A dry skin: often flaky and feels tight after being wiped. Gentle cleansing and a rich protective moisturizer for dry skin is essential to control that tight, uncomfortable feeling.
3. An oily skin type will leave blots of facial oil on the tissue, particularly from the cheeks, nose and forehead. This type of skin has overactive sebaceous glands, producing more oil than necessary. Oily skin is prone to acne flare ups and enlarged pores. It is vital to thoroughly clean the skin regularly with gentle, soap-free cleansers.
4. A normal skin has good circulation and there will not be any trace of sebum (or oil) on the tissue. Normal skin is soft, with a smooth, even skin tone.
  5.  Combination skin: oil is produced around the 'T-zone' of the nose and forehead but not on the cheeks, mouth and eye areas. The best skin care for combination skin will involve treating each region differently.

Waist trainers: torture or pleasure?

How can one ever feel comfortable in a waist trainer?
If you’ve ever considered a waist trainer or body magic to make you look better, you’re not alone. Body magic and waist trainers have been rising in popularity in recent years, and should only get more and more popular as the baby boomer population ages, and needs more support holding everything together. It’s also a popular choice for those that are only slightly overweight, as it’s meant to reduce the appearance of things like the waistline by a few inches instantly.

Body magic can do a lot of different things depending on what you’re after. If you have a specific body part or region in mind, they can help improve its appearance, either by making it look slimmer or trimmer. For example, if you have a problem with back fat, there are body shapers that can work to smooth out your back and make it look less noticeable.

If your tummy is the problem, you can get a waist trainer or even body magic that will help hold everything in, thus giving the appearance of being a few inches trimmer – instantly. There are also body magic that work on areas like keeping your butt in the right place, and also pushing up the breasts so they appear fuller.

But at what cost?
1.     You Don’t “Lose” Weight – Experts have said that those who solely use waist trainers without exercise don’t lose weight, its just your organs are pushed around into differ
2     . You Move Less – Many people who wear waist trainers tend to move less because of the constriction associated with pulling the body together.
3     . You Eat Less – Since many waist trainers make you feel full, many tend to eat less and sometimes that “less” means less vital fruits & veggies

Are Body magic and waist trainers Safe?
It may seem that body magic and waist trainers can’t be good for you, because the body isn’t meant to spend so much time all compressed together like that. It also raises concerns about circulation, and cutting off the blood supply to certain organs and limbs. Of course nothing is more natural than just being natural, and so wearing a body magic and wait trainer can’t be deemed as safe as not wearing one, but as far as it being a health hazard, that’s quite a leap. The best piece of advice would be not to wear a body magic that causes any amount of discomfort.

A place where beauty is costly

Being black is like a curse in Africa. Women and men alike bleach their skin to escape from their black colour forgetting that being fair skinned will never change their root. Did it change for the late Michaela Jackson?
Slave trade may have ended but the mental slavery for Africans have not ended. Some have lost their confidence over their skin colour believing black is inferior while white is superior.
As a result of this, many bleaching creams, injections, etc ranging from crude to refined products are abound in Africa which helps people change their skin colour. Black is beautiful if only you can see that!
The dangers associated with the use of some of these creams include blood cancers such as leukemia and cancers of the liver and kidneys, as well as a severe skin condition called ochronosis, a form of hyper-pigmentation which causes the skin to turn a dark purple shade.
What is the benefit of looking like tomato only to be completely severely burnt by bleaching chemicals beyond by the harmful your natural colour?
The price we pay in Africa for bleaching is very high.

5 reasons why you are not losing weight despite all your efforts

We are in the era where there’s a craze for slim figure. There are a lot of ways to lose weight. What works for Mrs. A may not work for Mrs. B.
At times you discover that the method you are using is not working for you but works for your friend. Here are some of the mistakes that are committed:
1. Not drinking enough water
Water makes up over two-thirds of a healthy body and plays a significant role in determining your body mass and overall weight.
Dehydration affects how your body burns fat, encourages excessive calorie intake and slows down your metabolism. It also causes a drop in your energy level, leading to increased tiredness that makes it difficult to be active.
2. Overrelaxation on the Weekends
After following a strict diet and exercise routine all week, most people get lazy during the weekend. This can significantly hinder weight loss efforts. Weekend routines differ considerably from weekdays, often providing more opportunities for eating and drinking as well as less exercise. Social events and outings during the weekends often include eating and drinking. In fact, during the weekends, people consume more alcohol and more calorie-dense foods, which is a recipe for easy weight gain. Moreover, people tend to spend less time exercising during the weekends.
3. Inadequate sleep
If you are not losing weight despite exercising a lot and following a strict diet, the reason can be sleep deprivation.
In fact, not paying attention to getting proper sleep is one of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to lose weight.
Sleep levels are linked to our hormone levels. Sleep deprivation leads to an increase in the secretion of the hormone cortisol, which triggers fat storage.
4. Skipping Meals
Many people think reducing calorie intake by skipping meals will help speed up weight loss. But in reality, skipping a meal can often lead to overeating at the next meal because you are even hungrier.
5. Depending Only on Exercise
Exercise is essential for a healthy lifestyle and for getting rid of the extra pounds. But if exercise is not combined with a strict diet plan and other lifestyle changes, you can forget about your weight loss goal. It is possible to achieve and maintain significant amounts of weight loss with the help of six key strategies:
  • Engaging in high levels of physical activity
  • Eating a diet that is low in calories and fat
  • Eating breakfast
  • Self-monitoring weight on a regular basis
  • Maintaining a consistent eating pattern
  • Arresting errors before they turn into larger regains.
